Are you a couch potato who knows you're long overdue for a good workout routine? Are you in front of the TV all day? Do you want to know how to burn calories during TV commercials? Let's look at some ways that you can burn calories and work out while watching TV.

Couch Potato Exercises

Triceps Couch Dips: Here is an exercise that you can do while sitting on the edge of the couch or edge of a coffee table. First, sit on the edge of either one. Next, place your hands on the edge, with your fingertips facing outward. Use your feet to walk out a bit, so that your pelvis hangs in the air. Now, slowly, with elbows bent and pointing outward, allow your hips to be lowered to the floor while straightening your arms. You want to do two repetitions of 10 or 15 for each set.

Couch Side Crunches: This exercise works your obliques. First, lie on the couch or a mat on the floor, on your left side, making sure you are on a firm surface. Place your right hand behind your head. Make sure your elbow is pointing up towards the ceiling. Place your left arm on your waist. Begin by lifting your shoulder off the floor or couch, contracting your oblique muscle. Bend side-ways left and right bringing your ribs to your hip. Hold this position for a moment, and come down slowly. It's best to do repetitions on one side then switch to the other side. Do one repetition of 10 on each side.

Scissor Abs: You need to use your abs for this exercise. This exercise is done lying on the floor, placing both hands under your head. Press your lower back on the floor. Now, raise both legs above you, slowly lowering your left leg, until it almost touches the floor, and slowly bringing the left leg back up meeting your right leg. Do this for one set of 10 repetitions for each leg. You can also try doing this with both legs at the same time. You will be able to feel this in your abs. Make sure that your back is pressed into the floor. If your back comes off the floor you have let your leg down too low.

Gluts: This exercise is to work your butt and your abs. Start by getting in front of your couch on all fours. Now, bring your left knee up to your chin as far as you can, curling your neck inward to meet your knee. Slowly extend your leg outward without letting your belly touch to the ground. Now, hold your leg extended for 2-3 seconds, while using your gluts. Do one set of 20 repetitions on each leg. When finished, sit on your knees on the floor, bending forward and stretching to release all tension. And, you are done.
